Gold Cup rematch
Jamaica was the first Caribbean nation to reach a Gold Cup final when it did so in the 2015 tournament. The Reggae Boyz knocked off the United States in the semifinal, but their Cinderella run came to a halt in the final in a 3-1 loss to Mexico.
Quarterfinal stakes
Mexico can lock up its quarterfinal bid and eliminate Jamaica from advancing with a win. A draw would keep Jamaica’s hopes for the quarterfinals alive, but very slim. Playing in its second-ever Copa America, Jamaica has yet to earn a single point in the tournament. In the 2015 Copa America, the Reggae Boyz lost all three of their group matches 1-0.
Chicharito closing in on record
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is two goals away from tying Jared Borgetti for Mexico’s all-time scoring record. The Bayer Laverkusen forward is sitting at 44 international goals in 83 caps after he did not score in Mexico’s Copa America opener, a 3-1 victory over Uruguay. The victory stretched Mexico’s international unbeaten streak to 20 matches.
Suspensions
Jamaican midfielder Rodolph Austin is suspended due to the red card he received in the last match against Venezuela. Mexico midfielder Andres Guardado is out after being sent off for two yellow cards against Uruguay.
