The Ministry of Tourism is reporting that US based carrier Jetblue will be providing 30,000 additional seats to Jamaica over the winter tourist season.
It comes even as the airline makes sweeping cutbacks affecting 24 routes across the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe.
Newark to Montego Bay flights by Jetblue are among those to be affected by the cuts.
Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, said the additional 30,000 seats will be out of New York’s John F. Kennedy and Fort Lauderdale International Airports.
He said Jetblue will operate up to nine daily flights from New York to Jamaica and up to nine daily flights from Fort Lauderdale to Jamaica.
“The Boston route also. We see increased airlift from Boston to Montego Bay by JetBlue. It’s very positive news. And the tri-state area is fully covered with services from Avelo out of Hartford, Connecticut. That starts next month. And of course, United continues their twice daily flights out of Newark, New Jersey, into Montego Bay. And of course, JetBlue, American Airlines, Delta, and Caribbean Airlines continue to service the New York John F. Kennedy airport with flights into Montego Bay and some into Kingston,” he noted.
