US Army General concludes her high-level visit to Jamaica
United States of America’s army general Laura Richardson, who has recently made a remarkable victory in the history by being the first woman to lead the US Southern Command, has now ended her high-level visit to Jamaica during her first visit to the Caribbean region.
The Embassy of the U.S. in Kingston, Jamaica, states that during the visit, Richardson called upon three of the meeting with having a primary focus on the United States’ longstanding bilateral defence ties with Jamaica and the Caribbean region.
Laura Richardson also attended the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF’s) change of command ceremony held on Friday to mark the oath-taking ceremony of Rear Admiral Antonette Wemyss Gorman as the first woman Chief of Defence Staff.
The embassy added that Wemyss Gorman and Richardson met at the JDF headquarters to have a discussion on the ever-growing US-Jamaica bilateral ties supporting security cooperation interests, threats and challenges.
Meanwhile, Richardson also shared words with National Security Minister Dr Horace chang on security cooperation opportunities supporting cyber engagements, local security, and curbing upon illicit trafficking.
Earlier, the commander had met with the senior U.S. embassy officials, including Charge d’Affaires Linnisa Wahid, regarding U.S. support for the America-Jamaica security partnership.
U.S. Air Force Major General Sherrie McCandless further accompanied Richardson.
Major General Sherrie McCandless became the first woman in 2021 to assume charge of commanding general duties of the Washington D.C. National Guard.
The U.S. Wahington D.C. National Guard has a state partnership with Jamaica that was established more than two decades ago.
