KINGSTON, Jamaica — One of the biggest reggae songs globally in several years, Praise Jah in the Moonlight, the breakthrough hit for YG Marley, has racked up new certifications.
On June 20, the song was certified gold in America by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales and streaming exceeding 500,000 units.
YG Marley has more reason to celebrate as the song was certified platinum in Canada on Monday June 24. The certification issued by Music Canada, commemorated sales and streaming in excess of 80,000 units.
Praise Jah in the Moonlight has been a global hit since its release in late 2023. It made several charts globally including the Billboard Hot 100 in America where he became the sixth Marley to make the Hot 100 chart. It peaked at #39 in March.
Other chart successes include the Billboard Canada Hot 100 (peaked at #20), Australia, Austria, Belgium, New Zealand (the song spent 4 weeks at #1), Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Portugal and Switzerland.
Over in the United Kingdom, Praise Jah in the Moonlight topped out at #5 on the UK Singles chart. It was previously certified silver in the UK (200,000 units) and platinum in New Zealand (30,000 units).
The song was written by Marley alongside his mother Lauryn Hill, and samples his grandfather Bob Marley’s 1978 song “Crisis” performed with the Wailers.
The 22- year-old YG is the son of Rohan Marley.
