CanMNT to play 2nd leg of Nations League q-final in Toronto

BMO Field was tagged as “Canada’s national soccer stadium” when it was built in 2007. That’s being solidified early in the Jesse Marsch era.

Marsch will get his first taste of managing Canada in Canada with Tuesday’s friendly against Panama and will get his first competitive match as CanMNT boss at BMO Field next month when Les Rouges host the second leg of their CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against a yet to be determined opponent on November 19.

“We are really looking forward to getting back into tournament competition, and this time in front of a supportive home crowd,” Marsch said in a Canada Soccer statement.

“Coming off the success of this summer’s Copa America, I know our squad will be hungry to line up against some of our region’s best and compete for some silverware.”

The winners of each matchup, determined by aggregate score after a home and away leg will progress to the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League Finals mini tourney, which CanMNT missed last year in Dallas, scheduled to be held in March 2025 at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. They’ll also secure a spot in the 2025 Gold Cup.

CanMNT are among four nations that have automatically qualified for the 2024-25 CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals, joining Mexico, the USA, and Panama as the top four seeded teams in the region. An additional four nations will advance through the group phase.

The pairings for the CNL quarter-finals will be established based on the CONCACAF Rankings as of October 2024, following this FIFA Window, as well as the results from the CNL Group Stage.

A win over Panama combined with a United States loss to Mexico in Guadalajara on Tuesday would see Canada hold on to second place in the CONCACAF rankings ahead of the Nations League quarter-final draw.

The second-ranked nation will face a runner-up team from the preliminary group stage round which could be Costa Rica, Suriname, Martinique, Honduras or Nicaragua. There are still two matchdays remaining after this round concludes.

Tickets go on sale this on Monday, October 21 on Ticketmaster.ca. Pre-sale windows will be available for CanadaRED fan members and Visa cardholders starting Thursday October 17.
