Club América from México and Club Barcelona from Spain will clash on December 21 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas to benefit the people affected by Hurricane Otis, which caused serious damage to the port of Acapulco.

Game organizers say both squads will come to North Texas with all their stars.

Barcelona, with renowned players such as goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, midfielder Frankie de Jon and striker Robert Lewandowski, occupies third place in the Spanish League with 30 points, just behind Real Madrid (32) and Girona (34).

América, Mexico’s winningest team with 13 League titles, finished the regular season as the best club with 40 points.

On October 25, Hurricane Otis made landfall near Acapulco, on Mexico’s southern Pacific coast as a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 165 mph. Reports and images from Acapulco showed catastrophic damage to structures, including many hotels and high-rise buildings, as well as downed trees, severe flooding, and mudslides. Damage was also reported at 120 hospitals and clinics. Additionally, more than 10,000 utility poles were destroyed, knocking out power and internet/communications across the region.

Mexico’s Government acknowledged 48 people are dead and 36 are missing because of Hurricane Otis.

“We feel very proud to be able to bring together two great world-class clubs in favor of a cause as important as supporting Acapulco after the tragic passage of Hurricane Otis,” said José Eshkenazi, CEO of Soccer Media Solutions.

The match will be broadcast in the United States and Mexico by TUDN and Televisa.

Ticket sales for the game will begin next week, through the Fair Park Tix and Ticketón platforms.
