This just in: the end of the world has been postponed.
The wailing of Democrats and their media mouthpieces notwithstanding, Donald Trump’s landslide victory is the dramatic course correction our nation and the entire free world desperately needed.
Its wide sweep offers the promise of progress on so many fronts that it already feels like Morning in America again.
The immediate benefits include both domestic and foreign gains.
They are examples of the “Trump effect” and should be seen as down payments on the progress to come.
American stock markets are booming in anticipation of his free-market economic policies and half of a migrant caravan in Mexico headed for the US turned back because of Trump’s plan for mass deportations.
More From Michael Goodwin
The about-face came after he warned Mexico’s president he’ll impose 25% tariffs on its exports unless she stops caravans before they reach the US border.
It also counts as good news that Democrats have formed a circular firing squad in the hunt for someone to blame.
Nancy Pelosi, who helped push President Biden off the ticket, is complaining the party goofed by not making Kamala Harris go through a primary process before anointing her as the nominee.
Ya think?
Radical left’s backfire
Others are more wisely focused on how the party’s radical agenda turned off so many core Dem supporters.
Ritchie Torres, the savvy Bronx congressman, cut to the chase by writing on X that “Donald Trump has no greater friend than the far left, which has managed to alienate historic numbers of Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and Jews from the Democratic Party with absurdities like “Defund the Police” or “From the River to the Sea” or “Latinx.”
The loss is even leading some of the lefty media’s prominent cheerleaders, including MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, to belatedly realize that inflation mattered to voters after they spent months echoing the dopey White House claim that Bidenomics was a success.
As for disappointments, the only one so far is that the fatuous celebrities who promised to leave the country if Trump won have not kept their word.
Come on, Barbra Streisand, lead the way to Canada.
And take Cher and crying Jimmy Kimmel with you.
Ultimately, whether they stay or go won’t matter.
What matters is that Trump’s policies will strengthen America both economically and militarily — and that will cause ripple effects around the globe.
A prime example of what happens when America leads with strength is the report that Qatar has told Hamas leaders that they must leave the country.
That’s effectively a death sentence because wherever they go, Israel will find them and kill them.
Happy days.
More broadly, the fate of terrorist scum everywhere is tied to what I believe will be the most important aspect of Trump’s foreign policy: His plan to stop Iran’s ability to spread mayhem and its quest for nuclear weapons.
The reasons for his focus are strategic– — and personal.
The unsealing of the federal indictment Friday that revealed an Iranian government plot to assassinate Trump showed how far the radical Islamic regime is willing to go in its quest for power.
This is the second Iranian plot to assassinate Trump the feds have busted, the first coming in August.
Dem silence deafening
The president-elect didn’t need another reason to go after the mad mullahs, but now he has one that is beyond dispute.
The attempts to kill him are the ultimate hostile acts against America and aimed to interfere in our election.
Tellingly, the Biden-Harris administration has said little about the plots, and its compliant press has treated them as ho-hum events.
Why is that?
Imagine how they would have treated attempts to kill Biden or Harris.
Merely to pointing out the difference gets to the heart of the matter: Iran doesn’t try to kill weak Democrats in the White House because they are a source of wealth and don’t interfere with Iran’s malignant agenda.
By the same token, the mullahs fear that Trump’s return will spoil the party.
If nothing else, he need only step aside and unleash Israel, something Biden and Harris have refused to do.
Under them, the murderous Iranian regime has reaped hundreds of billions of dollars in oil revenues because the White House effectively lifted the economic sanctions imposed by Trump.
Much of that money has gone directly to Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and other terror groups attacking Israel and our troops in the region.
Iran also funded attacks on our Arab allies, such as Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
And the mullahs have made common cause with Russia in its war against Ukraine and continue to help Syria’s butcher, Bashar al-Assad, slaughter his own people and Kurds.
Finally, Iran has made major progress in its bid to build nuclear weapons, and the current administration has no answer other than to keep bribing it with goodies.
The policy is an autopilot copy of the Obama-Biden policy, which aimed to coax and bribe Iran into more moderate positions.
The effort failed miserably years ago, but has nonetheless continued out of weakness and a desire not to be tightly tethered to Israel and especially prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
That backdrop makes Trump’s election especially timely.
The attempts to kill him must be the death knell for the most vile government on earth.
It’s goal, as the mullahs have repeatedly made clear, is to destroy Israel, which it calls the Little Satan, and then the United States, the Great Satan.
Trump’s counter approach envisions a world where Iran is just another oil-rich nation without horrific ambitions.
Its people finally would be free after living under a murderous, repressive regime since 1979.
No nukes, no problem
Trump said as much Tuesday.
After voting, he told reporters he was “not looking to do damage to Iran.”
He added: “My terms are very easy: They can’t have a nuclear weapon. I’d like them to be a very successful country.”
For its part, Iran denies it launched the assassination plots, with its foreign minister calling for “confidence-building” measures between the two countries.
If he means it, there are easy ways for Iran to prove it wants peace.
It can begin by telling Hamas leaders to surrender and release their hostages, including the four American citizens still being held in Gaza.
Iran should renounce any aim to eliminate Israel and immediately stop its attacks.
It must also order Hezbollah to stop firing into the Jewish state and pull its troops further north into Lebanon, as it promised to do years ago under a UN resolution.
After that, Iran must prove it is not building nukes by opening all its nuclear facilities for unlimited international inspection — and keep them open permanently.
It’s a tall order, but with Trump in the White House, Iran doesn’t have any other good choice.
When it realizes that, Trump will win an elusive peace and prove again that American strength is the only path forward to a safer world.
