El Tri El Tricolor searching their first Copa America title.
With the 2024 Copa America just a matter of days away, Mexico is gearing up with its youth-revolutionized squad, complemented by experienced players like César Montes and Edson Álvarez, who can provide much-needed leadership to guide this young side through the tough tournament.
Head coach Jaime Lozano has decided to form the core of the squad primarily with young, inexperienced players who have played in lower-level leagues around the world throughout their careers. Leaving out big names such as Ochoa, Lozano, and Jiménez for such a massive competition is a bold call by the manager.
Mexico has faced several internal issues since the end of the last World Cup. Following the tournament, the team endured a string of poor performances, leaving the nation in a dire situation and the Aztec fans disappointed.
Mexico is by no means a favorite going into the tournament, but if they want to have a successful campaign this summer, Jaime Lozano must get his game plan tactically spot on, with star players delivering standout performances and squad players exceeding expectations.
The responsibility of providing defensive cover and transitioning from defense to attack lies primarily on West Ham midfielder Edson Álvarez. His performances throughout the tournament will be key to how Mexico performs in this Copa America. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is a dominant presence in the middle of the park, with top-notch positional play and a strong passing range. He will be instrumental in any success that Mexico achieves this summer.
On the attacking front, Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez will be the prime focus for goals. The 23-year-old striker enjoyed a fruitful club campaign, netting 26 goals and providing 8 assists to help Feyenoord finish second in the Eredivisie this season. Giménez, in partnership with Alexis Vega, could be a lethal duo for Mexico, causing major havoc for opposition sides.

The draw has been decent for Mexico, grouping them alongside Jamaica, Ecuador, and Venezuela, making it one of the more interesting groups to watch. A strong, cohesive showing in the group stage, along with a bit of tournament luck in the knockout rounds, could see them make a respectable run in the 2024 Copa America. Mexico will face Jamaica in their opening Group B fixture on June 23.
