Beryl is the 2024 Atlantic season’s first hurricane and, at its peak earlier this week was the earliest category five storm on record.
It was a category two hurricane late on Thursday and is expected to weaken to a tropical storm overland. Forecasters say it could regain strength over the weekend as it heads towards Texas.
