The rush toward a highly disruptive remaking of the Mexican judiciary has lawyers very worried about prospects for the country’s economy, investment, and the rule of law.
The lower house of Mexico’s Congress on Wednesday approved a bill that calls for firing thousands of judges and replacing them by popular vote, essentially dismantling a system that requires judicial employees to accumulate experience in order to move into higher positions.
