Battle between the teams led by Heimir Hallgrímsson and Jamie Lozano.
The match completes the first day of Group B.
On June 22, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, starting at 8 p.m. local time, Mexico and Jamaica will make their debut in CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.
Hallgrímsson, who has been in charge of the island nation since 2022, led the Reggae Boyz to the semi-finals of the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2023, where they lost to none other than Lozano’s Mexico, who at the time were just an interim coach. El Tri would win the Gold Cup and the coach would be awarded the full-time position.
In 2024, both teams qualified for this year’s CONMEBOL Copa América™ by reaching the semi-finals of the Concacaf Nations League. Jamaica would finish in an impressive third place, while Mexico finished in second place behind the United States.
In the run-up to the world’s oldest national team tournament, Mexico won its first friendly against Bolivia 1-0 in May before losing to Uruguay 0-4 and a close match against Brazil 2-3 in June.
Jamaica enters the tournament on a three-game winning streak, starting with their 3rd place win in the Concacaf Nations League and then winning both of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in June against the Dominican Republic and Dominica.
The Reggae Boyz have never managed a point in CONMEBOL Copa América™ in their two previous appearances, while Mexico have proven to be the competition’s most successful guests, having reached the final twice, most recently in 2001.
