Moments after the final whistle sounded between Mexico and Ecuador in the group stage of Copa America, fans from both teams got into a heated brawl that left supporters of both countries injured.

How the fight started is unclear with the fans of the Group B opponents packed in tight inside State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The video starts with an Ecuadorian fan on the ground hurt, wrestling with a Mexican national team supporter.

Right above them is a Mexico fan in a light-colored El Tri jersey who then takes a swing at another Ecuadorian fan.

The Ecuador fan in a yellow jersey with a red and white hat responds with a haymaker that connects with the jaw of the Mexican fan, sending him momentarily limp and slumped over his seat.

Another man in a black jersey, with a Tecate beer logo on the back, then steps in to back the hard-punching Ecuadorian fan away, but does not appear to throw any punches himself.

The Mexican fan who was slumped over his chair did not get knocked out by the punch, but he stayed hunched over the chair in pain checking his mouth and jaw for damage.

The video ends before stadium security intervenes, or the crowd dispersed.

The final group-stage match for both Mexico and Ecuador ended in a scoreless draw, meaning the South American side advanced to the knockout rounds on goal differential over El Tri.

Frustration could be seen on the field from the Mexican players who were hoping to avoid another catastrophe after the team’s last few international outings had been considered failures.

The Mexican national team was eliminated in the group stage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup for the first time in nine appearances and lost 3-0 to rival USA in last year’s CONCACAF Nations League semifinals.

Frustration or not, tensions boiled over in the stands with multiple people on the ground after fighting.
