Araige highlights several reasons why the match will be played in College Station, instead of larger Texas cities like Houston, Dallas or San Antonio. The main reason being that both teams prefer College Station’s central proximity to those large cities — allowing more fans from all over the state to attend. College Station is about two hours from Austin, two hours and 30 minutes from Dallas, one hour and 30 minutes from Houston and three hours from San Antonio.
The teams also like Kyle Field’s large attendance capacity.
At the game, Brazil and Mexico hope to break the attendance record for a friendly match. Luckily for them, the home of the Aggie football team is one of the five largest stadiums in collegiate football, with a seating capacity of 102,733. The largest recorded attendance record at the stadium is 110,633, set in 2014.
Tickets for the Kyle Field friendly have not yet been released.
Before the Copa America, Mexico will also play a friendly match against Uruguay on June 5 at the University of Denver.
While College Station will get a preview of what’s to come in the Copa America, other Texas cities will host a few matches themselves at Houston’s NRG Stadium, Arlington’s AT&T stadium and Austin’s Q2 Stadium. It’s sure to be a summer to remember for soccer fans all across the state.
