The new Mexican administration: A conversation with Ambassador Ken Salazar

The new Mexican administration: A conversation with Ambassador Ken Salazar

Mexico, the United States’ top trading partner, elected new deputies and senators with the President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum’s coalition to have a supermajority in at least the lower house. With shared interests and challenges, this pivotal moment could serve as the launching pad for renewed strategies to address mutual areas of interest such as economic cooperation, security improvements, and migration.

How can the United States and Mexico further their relationship over the next sexenio? What areas should be prioritized to ensure the stability and durability of this relationship? How might the conversations surrounding topics of migration, fentanyl, USMCA, nearshoring, and other commercial efficiencies change over the next several years?

Join the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center on Wednesday, June 5 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. ET for a live, in-person conversation on the road ahead for US-Mexico relations with The Honorable Ken Salazar, United States ambassador to Mexico. Ambassador Salazar will join the Atlantic Council for his first public comments following the June 2 election win of Claudia Sheinbaum.

Ambassador Salazar has served as United States ambassador since August 2021 and previously served as US secretary of interior, US senator, and Colorado attorney general.

Please note: This event was originally scheduled for June 4 and is now rescheduled for June 5 at 3:45 p.m. ET
