Walmart has 2,756 stores in Mexico. This chain is the leader in the retail sector in the country, where it operates through Walmart, Walmart Express, Sam’s Club, and Bodega Aurrera.

The largest store in this supermarket chain is called Walmart Tepeyac, located in the northern part of Mexico City, near the Basilica of Guadalupe.

This store, located at 431 Calzada de Guadalupe in the Gustavo A. Madero district, is the largest Walmart in Mexico and all of Latin America.

It’s enormous. Many are amazed by its size as walking through its aisles can feel like a tour through thousands of products for all tastes and budgets.

Since its arrival in 1993, this chain transformed the Mexican retail market, becoming a benchmark for all kinds of shopping.

From a Ford factory to the king of retail

Walmart Tepeyac stands on the former site of a Ford assembly plant. After it closed, it became home to the Gran Bazar Hypermarket, which was recognized as the brand’s reference in terms of size.

Operating 24 hours a day, the size of this Walmart requires the supervision of two managers per shift, highlighting its importance within the company’s structure.

Launched in 2022, this model aims to consolidate more than 30 environmental and social initiatives in an effort to regenerate, not just sustain, the environment around each store.
