The USA advanced to the knockout stage of the U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time since 2016 with a 7-0 rout over Paraguay in their Group C finale at the Estadio El Techo in Bogotá, the Colombian capital.
Princeton striker Pietra Tordin had a hat trick and Seattle Reign winger Emeri Adames added three first-half assists.
The win secured second place in behind defending champion and sent the USA to the round of 16, where it will face Mexico on Wednesday at Estadio El Campin in Bogotá.
The game will be rematch of the 2023 Concacaf Under-20 Championship in which Mexico beat the USA 2-1 in the final. Only five U.S. starters from the 2023 team are in Colombia.
