When is Mexico’s next game at Copa America 2024? Schedule, dates, times, roster after El Tri eliminated

Mexico 2024

Following a scoreless draw against Ecuador in their third match at the 2024 Copa America, Mexico’s time at the CONMEBOL competition came to a close.

El Tri needed victory to secure qualification into the quarterfinals, but came up short, failing to score a goal for the second time in three group games. Thus, a third-place finish in Group B left them eliminated from the tournament.

El Tri sported a younger, less experienced squad at the 2024 Copa America, with a number of fan-favorite veterans left home, with head coach Jaime Lozano electing to omit the likes of as Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa, Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, Raul Jimenez, and Hector Herrera.

In exchange, Lozano and company gave some youngsters and newcomers a chance to make a name for themselves in front of one of the most passionate fanbases in the world. Yet they failed to do so, looking second-best in many of their games.

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, wing back Gerardo Arteaga, and Colombian-Mexican Julian Quinones all played big minutes at the Copa America, and are hoping to potentially earn a starting spot at the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico.

Since their first invitation to Copa America in 1993, Mexico have made it to the final twice, finishing as runners-up both times. El Tri was beaten by Argentina in 1993 and Colombia in 2001. It’s been a tough go for Mexico recently, as they were knocked out in the group stage in 2011 and 2015, and then in the Copa America Centenario in the U.S., El Tri was routed, 7-0, by Chile in the quarterfinals.
