How CONCACAF World Cup 2026 qualifying works The CONCACAF World Cup 2026 qualifying process consists of three rounds to determine which teams from North and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, will participate in the tournament.

In the first round, the four lowest-ranked teams compete in two-legged playoff matches for the right to move on to the second round.

The second round is essentially a group phase. The two first-round qualifiers, plus the 28 highest-ranked nations in the region (excluding the three hosts), are divided into six groups of five teams. Each nation plays two home games and two away matches in these groups. Those who finish in the top two positions of each group will progress to the third round.

In round three, the 12 teams are drawn into three groups of four. Each nation plays double round-robin home-and-away matches, with the three group winners qualifying for the World Cup. The best two runners-up will enter the inter-confederation playoff phase to compete for a spot at the finals alongside nations from the AFC, OFC, CONMEBOL and CAF regions.
