MSC unveils Asia - South America East Coast service

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has launched a new weekly service, Carioca, that connects Asia and South America’s East Coast.

According to MSC, it will give extra coverage while also enhancing connection and frequency with Asia on this critical trade channel, in addition to our existing Ipanema and Santana services.

In particular, the Carioca service will reportedly:

Extend port coverage with the addition of Itapoa and Rio de Janeiro calls

Better connect to Navegantes, Vitoria and the River Plate region via Rio de Janeiro

Increase sailing frequency from Korea and China to South Brazil (Santos and Paranagua)

The full rotation is as follows:

Busan – Shanghai – Ningbo – Shekou – Singapore – Rio de Janeiro – Paranagua – Itapoa – Santos – Itaguai – Colombo – Singapore – Busan

The inaugural sailing, MSC Yokohama, will depart Busan on 19 July 2024, on journey QI429A.

Recently, MSC introduced its new service, Britannia, which will provide increased port connections via a corridor from China to Vietnam to Liverpool.
