Brazil’s foreign ministry has expelled Nicaragua’s ambassador to the nation in retaliation for a similar move by the Central American country’s President Daniel Ortega. Two weeks ago, Nicaragua’s government protested against the Brazilian ambassador’s absence from the 45th anniversary celebrations of Nicaragua’s Sandinista revolution. The revolution in the 1980s paved the way for Ortega to become the president of Nicaragua. An ongoing rift between Nicaragua’s President Ortega and Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has grown over the last year.
