Among those listed are Taiwan’s Vice-President and key security officials, all advocates for the island’s independence. This move marks a significant escalation in Beijing’s efforts to assert control over Taiwan, which it views as a breakaway province. Taiwan’s government has firmly rejected these tactics, insisting that Chinese laws have no jurisdiction over the island.
