TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW/Gray News) – The oldest sun bear in North America is now another year older.
Hoho the Malayan Sun Bear celebrated his birthday at the Topeka Zoo on Oct. 17. He turns 35 on Oct. 19
The zoo threw a birthday party for Hoho that was streamed live on the zoo’s Facebook page.
“VOTE FOR HOHO,” the zoo said on its Facebook page, pointing out that the bear is now old enough to run for President.
The zoo decorated his enclosure for his birthday “rally” with streamers and signs that read “Hoho for Prez” or “Hoho for President.”
“A vote for Hoho is a vote for peanut butter on demand (exceptions for nut allergens), more naps in the sun, and a candidate that has never done anything wrong, ever,” the zoo said in a Hoho “campaign poster.”
Hoho was born in 1989 and arrived at the Topeka Zoo in 2018.
Malayan Sun Bears are native to the forest of Southeast Asia, according to a fact sheet on the zoo’s website. They are listed as a vulnerable species and have been impacted by habitat loss and poaching.
