Korean fried chicken franchise Bb.q Chicken opened its first location this week in Central America’s Panama City, Panama, in the province of San Francisco, an area with a large youth population and a high concentration of various businesses.

“Panama City is a pivotal gateway that connects North and South America and will be the first stepping stone in Bb.q Chicken’s expansion into South America,” an executive from Bb.q Chicken said in a company press release. “We look forward to a successful opening in Panama City, which we hope will serve as a gateway to additional expansion into South America in the years ahead.”

The move is part of the chain’s larger initiative to globalize Korean fried chicken as it plans to open in Costa Rica.

Established in 1995, as part of parent company Genesis BBQ, Bb.q Chicken has over 3,500 locations in 57 countries.
