Monday, July 1. This will be one of the biggest gut checks the US men have ever faced. Unless Bolivia can suddenly improve dramatically and get a result against Uruguay or Panama, the US will need to beat Uruguay to advance. Even with a win, advancing wouldn’t be guaranteed.
Failing to reach the quarterfinals in this tournament will be seen as an utter disaster. It’s difficult to imagine Gregg Berhalter keeping his job after that.
But crisis equals opportunity, right? And if this team showed one thing tonight, it’s a battling spirit, punctuated by occasional moments of brilliance.
See you then.

02.00 CESTFull time: Panama 2-1 USA
The USA are teetering on the brink of an early exit from the Copa America on home soil.
Timothy Weah’s early red card for lashing out nowhere near the ball was the decisive moment. But the USA made it difficult despite the long disadvantage, getting a golazo from Folarin Balogun and some stellar defense for a considerable amount of time.
But a lapse after the Balogun goal allowed Panama to equalize. And now the USA will likely need to beat Uruguay to advance.
Alexi Lalas on Fox says the next game may be for Gregg Berhalter’s job.
