Seventy Indians will be among the 100 migrants that Panama is set to deport as part of an expanded crackdown on the influx of migrants traveling north through Central America.
According to a CNN report, President Jose Mulino announced on Thursday that over 100 migrants from countries including India, China, Ecuador, and Colombia will be deported.

The deportations are part of a broader initiative in collaboration with the United States, which aims to address and mitigate the rise in irregular migration toward the north — a trend that has significantly increased in recent years.
According to President Mulino, Panama has scheduled a flight to send 70 Indian nationals back to their home country on September 3.
Additionally, there will be deportation flights for an unspecified number of Chinese migrants, though details regarding these flights were not fully disclosed.
In the near future, flights will also carry groups of Ecuadorians and Colombians back to their respective countries. It is noteworthy that Ecuadorians make up the second-largest group of migrants in the region, following Venezuelans.
Earlier in this program, 29 Colombians were already deported on a previous flight.
The increase in deportations is a response to the growing number of migrants attempting to reach the United States by crossing into Panama from the Darién Gap.
This notoriously dangerous rainforest region serves as a critical transit point connecting South and Central America.
The Biden administration has been actively working to manage this migration challenge by establishing processing centers in Latin American countries and urging neighbouring nations to enhance their border enforcement efforts.
So far this year, Panama has seen over 230,000 people enter the country via the Darién Gap, marking a significant 30% increase in crossings compared to the same period in 2023, according to Roger Mojica, the head of Panama’s migration agency.
