Determined to leave their mark on this Copa America, Paraguay want nothing less than victory against Brazil in the early hours of Saturday morning in the second round of Group D, said coach Daniel Garnero.
“It’s a different game against Brazil, obviously, but we face it with the urgency we have and the need to get a win,” said the Argentinian coach at a press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday.
“We know we’re up against a very tough, difficult opponent, with high-level players, but we have to go to the maximum of our possibilities because we need to win,” emphasized Daniel Garnero.
Paraguay, who have qualified for the quarter-finals in the last two editions (2019 and 2021), slipped up in their opener, losing 2-1 to Colombia, in a performance that didn’t leave the coach entirely dissatisfied.
“Against Brazil we have to have the same order as the previous game, but also try to be a bit more aggressive in attack,” he said.
“We’re lacking more composure in the final touch. When we get that efficiency, we’ll have the confidence and the results we’re looking for,” he added.
Garnero, who took charge of Paraguay in 2023 after a long and successful spell in the national league, can take inspiration from the web that Costa Rica created to earn a 0-0 draw with Brazil in their opener.
“It’s clear that Brazil have a lot of very dangerous individual moves. We’ll try to reduce the space for them and make sure they can’t play
