Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, remarked that Donald Trump’s victory in the United States presidential election for a second term is «received with great enthusiasm.» «Republican administrations have a closer relationship with Latin America, which is a positive signal,» he stated.
He reiterated that Paraguay is an ally of the United States and collaborates with every administration, regardless of its political party. However, he noted that a stronger relationship with Latin America generally characterizes U.S. Republican governments.
He added that, historically, Paraguayan presidents have been welcomed by Republican presidents in the U.S.
In his view, a second Trump presidency could continue the approach established during the 2017-2021 term, where efforts were made to maintain global peace. “We had far fewer conflicts than we do today, so with that experience, he will bring peace,” Peña said.
The president was also asked about the administrative sanctions imposed by the U.S. Department of State. Peña expressed that using sanctions has been a topic of debate within the United States. «We hope that won’t be the approach. We hope they will work with us as partners,» he concluded.
