Paraguayan President Santiago Peña.
Asunción, Agencia IP.- President Santiago Peña detailed Paraguay’s logistics and energy integration center conditions. He indicated that one objective of his Government is for Paraguay to be seen as a safe place to host significant investments in installing artificial intelligence computing centers.
«In this technological race that is taking place about who will be the leader in computing centers for artificial intelligence. That race is defined by the availability of clean and renewable energy at competitive prices. Paraguay has these conditions to aspire to be that center,» he said during a discussion organized by the Business Council of Latin America (CEAL) this Monday.
He indicated that these conditions led the president and his ministers to visit the world’s main technology companies and «that they can see Paraguay as that safe place in the world to host large investments.»
The president also referred to projects to take advantage of the waterway’s potential by increasing its transport capacity and the Bioceanic Road Corridor. The latter is part of an energy integration project that involves transporting gas along this route from Argentina to Brazil.
Other sectors with large investments
The Ministers of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, and of Economy and Finance (MEF), Carlos Fernández, also participated in the discussion. Minister Giménez highlighted large investment projects such as the Paracel cellulose plant and the investments planned in the waterway and finally mentioned the BPO sector (outsourcing in the provision of services to companies), which he sees as having great potential for the country.
Minister Fernández, for his part, pointed out that this development must occur through the private sector’s commitment to a relationship in which the public sector must provide predictability in its policies.
President Peña reiterated that Paraguay has all the conditions to be a prosperous country, and this process must be accompanied by improvements in the health, education, security, and social protection systems.
He said his vision of growth is one of stable rates in the long term instead of accelerated growth through populist recipes that later generate periods of recession. «In this dilemma between growing suddenly or growing continuously, we look at the example of Taiwan, a small country compared to its neighbors but efficient in production,» he concluded.
