Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, received representatives from Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute for North America and their delegation. These semiconductor technology experts expressed strong interest in Paraguay’s potential to attract investments in this sector.
The meeting took place yesterday at Mburuvicha Róga. On this occasion, the President met with Ming Che Wang and Ray Yang, representatives of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute for North America, and their delegation. These semiconductor technology experts showed great interest in Paraguay’s potential to attract investments in this sector.
«We emphasize that Paraguay, with clean energy, a stable economy, and a strategic location, is an excellent destination for investment. We will continue working on a roadmap to strengthen our technological profile and open new opportunities for the country,» Peña shared through his social media.
Meeting with Information and Communication Technologies Minister
In this context, the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), Gustavo Villate, also met with the Taiwanese delegation to discuss Paraguay’s opportunities for setting up semiconductor factories.
The meeting allowed Paraguayan authorities to present ITRI with a detailed vision of the regional situation and the country’s competitive advantages in attracting investments in the tech sector. During the meeting, Minister Villate emphasized the importance of Paraguay becoming a key player in a region undergoing rapid technological transformation.
They also discussed the relevance of the Becal scholarship program and the capabilities of local universities, which are prepared to train engineers specialized in semiconductors—a fundamental pillar to the success of this project.
These actions reflect the country’s commitment to developing the necessary talent to drive industry growth and create a conducive environment for technological investment.
Deepening cooperation opportunities
During the Taiwanese delegation’s visit, the Minister of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, met to explore more profound cooperation opportunities between Paraguay and Taiwan in strategic areas such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
The Taiwanese experts highlighted three key aspects for the development of the semiconductor industry in Paraguay: the abundance of clean energy, which represents a competitive advantage for the tech industry; the country’s strategic location, which facilitates access to markets like Brazil; and the potential to diversify into alternative energy sources, such as solar panel production.
Additionally, the possibility of establishing data centers leveraging clean energy and emerging tech infrastructure was emphasized.
Taiwan’s Ambassador to Paraguay, José Chih-Cheng Han, noted that while these experts are not businesspeople, they have deep knowledge of the sector, which is strategically vital from political and geopolitical perspectives.
«We will carefully study these opportunities to move forward with concrete actions, whether in investment or cooperation, taking advantage of the conditions Paraguay offers, especially in clean energy and human talent,» said Chih-Cheng Han.
With these initiatives, Paraguay strengthens its path toward becoming a relevant player in the semiconductor and advanced technology industries, fostering an ecosystem that encourages investment and technological development at both regional and global levels.
