LIMA, Peru – University of Iowa sophomore Ximena Benites will compete at the Women’s Amateur Latin America Championship on Thursday through Sunday at the Lima Golf Club (par 71, 5,920 yards).
The field will consist of 60 top female amateur players from South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. It will consist of 72 holes of stroke play without a cut. In the event of a tie after 72 holes, the winner will be decided by a sudden-death playoff.
Play begins with 7:30 a.m. (CT) tee times each day. On Saturday, players will have the opportunity to participate in a clinic with Annika Sorenstam.
Current senior Paula Miranda competed in the inaugural WALA in 2021, tying for 12th place with a 72-hole total of 296 (78-71-73-74).
Benites, a native of Trujillo, Peru, posted a 75.25 scoring average over 12 rounds during the fall season. She tallied three top 20 and one top 10 finish.
In the fall finale, Benites tied for fourth at the Hurricane Classic in Coral Gables, Florida, with a 54-hole total of 215 (77-69-69). It was a career-best finish and the top 18 and 54-hole totals of her collegiate career.
