BOX-OFFICE PREDICTIONS
Captain America: Brave New World is projected to come out on top, tracking towards an $80 million three-day opening and up to $95 million for the four-day Presidents Day weekend. The action movie from Marvel Studios is a continuation of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The last MCU title to premiere over Presidents Day was 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which earned a four-day total of $120.3 million.
Debuting in second place will be Sony’s Paddington in Peru, which hits U.S. theaters after already raking in $109 million internationally. The third installment of this animated live-action franchise is set to bank $15 million domestically, which is $4 million more than Paddington 2‘s receipts in 2017. Rounding out the top five will be last week’s top three, each with less than $10 million: Dog Man, Heart Eyes, and Love Hurts.
Here are Gold Derby’s current box-office rankings for the top five:
1. Captain America: Brave New World
2. Paddington in Peru
3. Dog Man
4. Heart Eyes
