given the sector’s significant potential. Therefore, S/767 million (about US$205.14 million) is being invested in tourism infrastructure.

“Through our ‘Vision 360 to 2030,’ we are aiming for Peru to become the top destination in Latin America; we have ambitious targets of reaching 10 million visitors through receptive tourism and contributing over 10% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” Galdo told Andina News Agency on Monday.

The Cabinet member said that short, medium, and long-term work is being carried out to regain pre-pandemic figures, aiming to reach 48 million visitors and 4.4 million foreign tourists.

“We estimate that we can regain these figures by the end of this year or the first quarter of 2025, and restore (the pre-pandemic) GDP contribution of 3.2%, considering the full potential our country has in (terms of) tourist attractions, culture, and adventure tourism,” Galdo indicated.

“There are many opportunities, not only for the growth of tourist arrivals but also for investments in hotels, restaurants, and other sectors,” she added.

The minister indicated that, through the National Copesco Plan (Special Commission to Coordinate and Supervise Peru’s Cultural Tourism Plan – UNESCO), there are quite ambitious objectives for tourism improvement, with an investment of S/767 million (about US$205.14 million) between 2023 and 2026.

“For example, we already had a very important inauguration at Lake Yarinacocha (Ucayali region) thanks to an investment worth over S/144 million (about US$38.51 million) in a boardwalk that has been very well received. Similarly, restaurants and shops will be developed in the area, because it is a tourism center,” Galdo indicated.

“Another recently-inaugurated project is the Señor de Muruhuay Sanctuary (Junin region) and the Campo Santo of Yungay (Ancash region), with an investment of over S/25 million (above US$6.69 million),” she added.

The National Copesco Plan is in charge of formulating, coordinating, directing, executing, and supervising investment projects of tourist interest at a national level.

Similarly, it provides specialized technical support for the execution of tourist projects to regional governments, local governments, and other public entities that require it, signing the corresponding inter-institutional cooperation agreements for the appropriate purpose.
