Peru expects to export 78.7 million boxes (8.2 kilos each box) this season, which would represent an increase of 25.4 percent compared to the 62,745,726 boxes shipped in the 2023-2024 campaign, according to Agraria, citing the first estimate from the Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (Provid).
The association indicated that this growth would be explained by a notable recovery of table grape production on the northern coast of the country, an area that was strongly affected by climatic issues in the previous campaign.
Provid highlighted that in the 2024-2025 campaign, Peruvian table grape exports would cover more than 50 markets, with the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and China standing out.
It indicates that the table grape cultivation areas extend along a large part of the coastal strip, highlighting the regions of Ica, which concentrates 49 percent of the total, Piura 37 percent, Lambayeque 6 percent, La Libertad 5 percent, Arequipa 3 percent, Ancash 0.5 percent, Lima 0.5 percent and Moquegua 0.1 percent.
Table grapes are driving significant economic growth in the producing regions with this development not only contributing to local economic stability, but also reflecting the industry’s commitment to sustainable practices that promote resource conservation and the well-being of communities, thus reinforcing the country’s commitment to responsible economic, social and environmental development, Provid said.
Provid said it continues its work of communicating updated projections, providing essential information so that its associates and the various interest groups in the industry can make informed decisions, both nationally and internationally.
The union added that the next estimates are scheduled to be updated in October and December, when the campaign is already underway.
