St. Johns County Parks and Recreation
The Last Cast: Friday, Jan. 3 at the Usina Boat Ramp. For $5 participants can rent rods, reels and tackle, to enjoy an evening of shoreline fishing. Tale Tellers of St. Augustine present “Tall Tales and True” featuring historians and humorists David Fussell and Drew Sappington on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2 p.m. at The Waterworks. Advance tickets are available online.
The City of St. Augustine Recycle Right
The City of St. Augustine is hosting a recycling event (used cooking oil, electronics, batteries and holiday light strands) on Jan. 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Francis Field and 840 West 16th Street on Anastasia Island. The St. Augustine Film Festival
The St. Augustine Film Festival will feature 40 films at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium, the Gamache-Koger Theater and City Hall’s Alcazar Room Thursday, Jan. 9 through Sunday, Jan. 12. An opening night dinner will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9 at St. Augustine’s Asado Life. A Friday night party will be held at Casa de Vino 57, a Saturday party will be held at the St. Augustine Distillery, and a Wrap Party will be held at the Markland House on Sunday, Jan. 12. The University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience
The University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience Evenings at Whitney Lecture Series continues on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at 6 p.m. with “From the Wilderness to the Research Laboratory: My Quest to Uncover the Mysterious Healing Properties of Plants” presented by Dr. Nadja B. Cech, Patricia A. Sullivan Professor of Chemistry, University of North Carolina Greensboro. The free lecture will be held at the UF Whitney Laboratory Lohman Auditorium, 9505 Ocean Shore Blvd. The lecture will also be offered via ZOOM live.
The Ron Parker Memorial Service
The Ron Parker Memorial Service, hosted by the St. Augustine Beach Police Department takes place on Friday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at Ron Parker Park. A fundraiser luncheon benefitting the Ron Parker Memorial Endowed Scholarship will be held at 12:30 at Markland House located on the Flagler College Campus. Click here for story details.
State Legislative Delegation Public Hearing
St. Johns County will host its annual State Legislative Delegation public hearing on Friday, Jan. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon in the St. Johns County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View. Details can be found here.
Weed Wrangles
Weed Wrangles will meet on Friday, Jan 10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Vilano Beach Pavilion. Weed Wrangle volunteers protect public parks and green spaces by removing non-native invasive species. Attendees work with invasive plant management experts to remove harmful trees, vines and plants. January’s Weed Wrangle will target Mother of Millions (Kalanchoe sp.) in collaboration with St. Johns County Parks and Recreation. Click here to register.
Run With A Vision
Run With A Vision 5K will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 8 a.m. at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind campus. Hosted by The Randolph Sheppard Vendors of Florida, runners can register here.
Wreaths Across America
St. Augustine’s Wreaths Across America program is calling for volunteers to retrieve wreaths on Sat. Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at the city’s National Cemetery. Participants should wear gloves and bring a pole to collect the wreaths. Wreaths will be placed by building on the northwest side of the cemetery for pickup.
School of the 16th Century
Historic Florida Militia presents the School of the 16th Century at the Oldest House Museum Complex on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donning the garb of the day, actors will portray St. Augustine as it was 450 years ago.
Third Street Improv
Third Space Improv celebrates its first-year anniversary with a free show on Saturday, Jan 11 at its Malaga Street location. Amy Angelilli, founder and CEO of all things fun will kick off the party with a free champagne Happy Hour at 7 p.m. followed by a free improv show at 8 p.m. Beer, wine, soft drinks, fresh popcorn, and other snacks will be available for purchase and parking is free. Movie Night – Rise of the Guardians POSTPONED DUE TO COLD WEATHER
The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a free public viewing of Rise of the Guardians on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Treaty Park located on 1595 Wildwood Drive, St. Augustine, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Jimmy Jam BBQ Slam
The Jimmy Jam BBQ Slam, sponsored by MasterCraft Builder Group, will be held at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Proceeds from the jammed packed food festival will be donated to Jimmy Jam Community Outreach.
Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, competitors will serve chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket BBQ from 2 to 4 p.m. The Chili Cook-Off and Chowda Bowl will offer 2-ounce samples from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for details. Story details can be found here.

The Saint Augustine Jazz Society will hold its monthly Blues Jam on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Clubhouse, located at 301 Royal St. Augustine Parkway. The featured Blues Artist will be Beulah Mae.

Shuck for a Truck will be held on Friday Jan. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Genung’s Fish Camp. The monthly oyster roast fundraiser is raising money to purchase a truck to tow the Litter Gitter. Click here for details. All proceeds will benefit Matanzas Riverkeeper.
St. Johns County Parks and Recreation
Homeschool Instant Photography: Friday, Jan. 17 at Canopy Shores. The hands-on creative photography class will use classic cameras to teach students the basics of instant photography. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Breakfast and Silent March
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Breakfast and Silent March will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at St. Augustine’s Renaissance Historic Downtown Hotel. The annual event, now in its 40th year, features Daryl D. Parks of Parks Law Firm in Tallahassee as keynote speaker. Breakfast begins 7:30 a.m. The silent march begins at 9 a.m. at 87 MLK Ave., in the parking lot of the Saint Paul AME Church. Click here to register.
Matanzas Fun Run: Superhero Dash
A one-mile fun run for kids 13 years and younger dressed as superheroes on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8 a.m. Registration is free, and the first 100 participants will receive a t-shirt and medal at the finish line. Click here for details.
St. Johns County Parks and Recreation
Native Landscaping: Saturday, Jan. 18 at Beluthahatchee Park. Kelly Tesiero of Nurture Nature will discuss native plants. Participants will learn how to cut a variety of plants and sow seeds to boost the biodiversity of birds and pollinators. Supplies are included. 2025 Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series
The 2025 Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series will be held at St. Augustine’s World Golf Village Renaissance Resort on Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. George Poveromo, Salt Water Sportsman’s editor-at-large and host of Discovery Channel’s World Saltwater Fishing, will be joined by co-Captain Debbie Hanson, a light tackle inshore fishing specialist and outdoor writer teaching the how-tos and where-tos of catching the region’s inshore, near shore and offshore saltwater game fish along with the latest rigging and fishing techniques. The annual seminar is America’s longest running education course for marine fishing.

City of St. Augustine Arbor Day Ceremony
The City of St. Augustine’s Annual Arbor Day Ceremony will take place on Friday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Plaza de la Constitución. Free tree saplings will be distributed while supplies last.
Big Chilly – Polar Bear Plunge & Chili Cook-Off
Big Chilly – Polar Bear Plunge & Chili Cook-Off! Polar Bear Plunge takes place Saturday, Jan. 18 at St. Augustine’s Guy Harvey Resort. Dare to dive into the frosty waves, either solo or with a team, prizes will be awarded for Best Individual Costume and Best Team Spirit. Registration opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Chili Cook-Off will also be hosted by the International Chili Society. Categories include Traditional Red, Homestyle, Verde, and Veggie on Saturday, Jan 18 and Sunday, Jan. 19 for a chance to earn a spot to the ICS World Championships.
Chili Tastings will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19 from noon until 3:30 p.m. Attendees can sample the chili creations and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Big Chilly Champion. Proceeds go the Matanzas Riverkeeper. Click here for registration information.
Giro d’Italia’s Ride Like a Pro USA Cycling Race/Tour
Giro d’Italia’s Ride Like a Pro USA Cycling Race/Tour, a competitive and noncompetitive cycling event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18 and Sunday Jan. 19. Beginning at the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village and hosted by Race Central, J Cycling Enterprises and DRC Sports Timing Services & Athletic Event Management, the two-day, Italian-themed event is designed to replicate the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta d’España.

The Matanzas 5000
Matanzas 5000 will be held on Saturday, Jan 18 at 8:00 a.m. Hosted by Ancient City Runners, the annual event now in its 45th year, begins at 29 West Castillo Drive, runs along the Matanzas River, through St. Augustine’s Historic District, and finishes on Castillo Drive. Click here to register.

Musicians will perform in the Ximenez-Fatio House gardens on Saturdays through Jan. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Sons and Daughters of Italy scholarship fund raising concert “Tribute to the Legends” (Bee Gees, Golden Oldies, MoTown, Frankie Valli and more) will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 with doors opening 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
The St. Augustine Music Festival
The St. Augustine Music Festival presents Aaron Lehrian, jazz pianist and composer, in concert at the St. Augustine Waterworks, on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. Ticket information can be found here.
EMMA Concerts
The EMMA Concert Association presents the Česká filharmonie on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at The Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College. Click here for tickets. The Czech Philharmonic, originally scheduled to perform on Sunday, January 19 in St. Augustine, has been cancelled due to travel visa issues. The Jacksonville Symphony will perform on the same date, time and location, with a delightful program of Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. Tickets for the Czech Philharmonic can be used to attend the Jacksonville Symphony concert. A limited number of tickets are still available at emmaconcerts.com.
The Bad Outdoorsmen

River Reflections Art Submissions
St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department and the Matanzas Riverkeeper are co-hosting a call for artists to submit art that highlights the connection of waterways to the community. Artists will gather at Alpine Groves Park to showcase their work on March 14. Click here for submissions.
Florida Water Tours Nights of Lights and Sunset of Lights
Florida Water Tours Nights of Lights cruises depart from the Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor Marina through Jan. 26. The Sunset Nights of Lights Cruise, a 90-minute excursion and departs daily on The Osprey at 5 p.m. for adults 21 years and older and on The Island Breeze at 5:15 p.m. for all ages. The Matanzas Riverkeeper
A Public Litter Gitter trip will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Genung’s Fish Camp. The Matanzas Riverkeeper Litter Gitter program engages volunteers to clean St. Johns County waterways.
