The PGA of America has announced the qualification criteria for the United States team for the Ryder Cup this Tuesday. There are no changes. The news is that LIV Golf players will still find it very tough to make the team on their own merit. They can only do so through their performance in the Majors or with a captain’s pick by Keegan Bradley. Ryder Cup USA is not easing up. LIV Golf tournaments continue not to count in any way.
Given these circumstances, the criteria for earning points to qualify for the team are as follows:
Majors played in 2024
– One point for every $1,000 earned in the four Majors, provided they have made the cut.
The PLAYERS 2024
– One point for every $1,000 earned among those who have made the cut.
Regular PGA Tour tournaments 2025
– One point for every $1,000 earned in each tournament where they have made the cut between January 1 and August 17, 2025, the date on which the BMW Championship concludes.
The so-called ‘Opposite Field’ tournaments of the PGA TOUR will not receive points
Majors played in 2025
– One and a half points for every $1,000 earned in the four Majors, provided they have made the cut.
The top six in the Ryder Cup USA points standings who are eligible after the BMW Championship will automatically qualify for the team. The other six players completing the team will be Keegan Bradley’s picks. He will announce them right after the Tour Championship.
The points ranking does not guarantee qualification for the Ryder Cup. Additionally, players must meet all eligibility requirements.
