The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and government officials to discuss the support the CDB can provide for the country’s recovery.

Gonsalves provided a detailed update of the weather damage, especially in Union Island, Canouan and Mayreau, which had a major impact on buildings, education and energy supply.

The Grenadian Prime Minister also reported data related to the number of people affected and showed the future social and economic challenges.

Solomon said “The CDB stands in solidarity with the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines during this difficult time. Our commitment to support the recovery and reconstruction process is unwavering”.

CDB members visited several communities where they could see the destruction of homes, schools, community spaces and public facilities, as well as serious damage to electricity services.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, said “All indications are that hurricanes will become stronger and more frequent and there is a real risk of them occurring early in the hurricane season, which runs from June to November”.

The Grenadian leader underlined “So part of our funding and recovery efforts must be focused on ensuring that we build infrastructure, housing and other resilient buildings to withstand not just hurricanes or the other challenges we face in this part of the world”.
