On July 1st, Hurricane Beryl struck Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The hurricane brought widespread destruction, displacing thousands of people. In response, national authorities in both countries immediately initiated localized relief efforts.
The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) took the lead in coordinating the response through the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM). Response teams were quickly deployed to provide essential support to National Disaster Officers in both Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
In collaboration with UN agencies, these teams conducted rapid assessments to gauge the extent of the damage. Additionally, UNDAC teams were deployed to enhance coordination and information management, assist CDEMA and government operations, and facilitate operational spaces. They are also conducting thematic assessments, including debris management, to streamline of early recovery
