Hurricane Beryl - Grenada and St Vincent & the Grenadines Situation Report #5 (4-July-2024 / 1500 AST) - Grenada

Grenada Prime Minister reported that the north of mainland Grenada was also significantly affected by the storm, with St. Patrick parish most severely affected of which 98% of its residents is still without power.

Today, 4 July, a 12-member team of Ministry of Health Grenada is travelling to Carriacou and Petite Martinique to provide support to the health care workers and present them with care packages. Approximately 3 members will stay in Carriacou to provide support to identify at risk patients so emergency transfers to mainland Grenada will be reduced.

Approximately 1000 persons have been evacuated from the southern Grenadine Islands.

The immediate needs for St. Vincent and the Grenadines are:

o Repairs to the roofs on the clinics in Union and Mayreau
o Safe shelter/accommodation for health staff of the affected islands
o Staff relief

In Carriacou, Grenada, the Samaritan Purse established an EMT Type 1 field hospital. In Union Island, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Samaritan Purse is setting up an EMT Type 1 field hospital with 2 doctors, some nurses and WASH experts. They will assist with repairs to some buildings in both countries.

Health, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Awaiting needs list for Ministry of Health, Grenada.

Three members of the PAHO response team expected to arrive in St. Vincent and the Grenadines early next week to cover damage assessment, environmental health and mental health and psychosocial support. A PAHO expert awaiting deployment of the Rapid Needs Assessment Team (RNAT) to Grenada.
