HIGHLIGHTS

On 12 July 2024 – The PAHO team in collaboration with Ministry of Health officials in St. Vincent and the Grenadines briefed the Cabinet including Prime Minister Hon. Ralph Gonsalves on the current health assessment of the country. A report on the WASH assessment was presented and recommendations were made on improvements for water sourcing, sanitation, debris clearing, and hazards that could result in vector borne illnesses.
A press briefing on the regional response plan featuring Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell and Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, moderated by UNRC for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries, Simon Springett on July 11, 2024. PM Gonsalves expressed appreciation for the support from the UN so far with a special mention of PAHO’s support. o There was an appeal to development partners for grant funding
o Approximately 3500 households affected in St. Vincent and the Grenadines o Approximately 10,000 persons with significant damage to homes in Grenada
o Regional countries, Caricom and international partners were lauded by both prime ministers for their immediate support following Beryls impact. o MHPSS is noted as an urgent need for people under stress.
The second health sector coordination meeting convened by PAHO was held on 11 July 2024.
The first MHPSS coordination meeting was convened by PAHO and held on 11 July with participation of Ministry of Health & the Environment and the Ministry of National and Social Mobilization St. Vincent and the Grenadines; the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social and Community Development, and the Ministry of Mental Health, Grenada; UN Women, UNICEF, and UNFPA.
Personal impact on staff impedes operations throughout the health network.
