St Vincent (SVG) and Palau Establish Diplomatic Ties

On May 21, 2024, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the Republic of Palau.

Palau is a country located in the Pacific. The leader of Palau, President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., signed on behalf of his country.

The signing took place at the Office of the President in Taipei, facilitated and witnessed by the new Taiwanese president, Dr. Lai Ching-te.

Palau is an archipelago of over 500 islands, part of the Micronesia region in the western Pacific Ocean. Koror Island is home to the former capital, also named Koror, and is the islands’ commercial center. The larger Babeldaob has the present capital, Ngerulmud. The country’s per capita income is one of the highest in the pacific region. The U.S. dollar is the official currency of Palau, which does not have a central bank.
