A shooting in St Vincent and the Grenadines has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy and a 30-year-old vendor. A 63-year-old man was also injured.

The deceased have been identified as Jason St Rose, 17, a student at the St Vincent Grammar School and Jomarl John, 30, a vendor, both residents of Pole Yard, Arnos Vale.

According to the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), preliminary investigations have revealed that on July 13, Jomarl John and a 63-year-old retiree were at a business place in Pole Yard when an unknown masked gunman entered and opened fire. Both John and the retiree were shot and John was pronounced dead at the scene.

The retiree was taken to the Kingstown Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. The 17-year-old student was shot at a location a short distance from the business place and was also pronounced dead at scene.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death of the deceased.

The police force is appealing to anyone with information that could assist in solving this case to come forward.

The St Vincent Grammar School in a statement said no words could express the shock and sadness in the school’s community when one of their own, Jason St Rose, was taken away from them so violently.

The school said: “This is a tragedy that impacts each and every one of us as Jason in his own way was interwoven into the fabric of our school.

During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those who mourn his untimely passing. As a school community, our thoughts and prayers are with them as we all navigate this immense loss.”
