Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam, 26, of Trinidad and Tobago crowned her successor at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago on May 26, 1999. It is the 48th edition of the international beauty pageant.
Fitzwilliam is the second Miss Universe from Trinidad and Tobago. The first one was Janelle Commissiong, who became the first Miss Universe of African descent in 1977.
