The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has announced the national squad set to represent the country at the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens tournament in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, slated for November 24th-26th.
The competition, which promises to showcase the best in regional rugby, will see Guyana’s senior men’s team facing tough opposition, including an opening-day clash against Canada and a day-two matchup against Barbados.
The squad, led by captain Godfrey Broomes, is a mix of experienced players and emerging talents. Vice-captain Lionel Holder will provide additional leadership on the field.
The other members of the team are: Vallon Adams, Matthew Talbot, Godfrey Pollydore, Rickford Cummings, Shawn David, Renaldo Niles, Yannick Williams, Scott Garraway, Odida Douglas, Kelvin Grant, Owen Adonis, and Gavin McPherson.
The members of the management team will be led by head-coach Claudius Butts, while Elwin Chase will serve in the capacity of assistant trainer.
Ryan Gonsalves and Ronaldo Griffith will act as the team manager and assistant manager, respectively.
The team has been hard at work in training sessions, fine-tuning their strategies and building cohesion ahead of the tournament. Coach Claudius Butts expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness:

The RAN Sevens is always a challenging competition, but I trust in our preparation and the resilience of these players. We’re aiming to make our country proud.”
The RAN Sevens will bring together the best rugby sevens teams from across North America and the Caribbean, offering Guyana an opportunity to test their mettle against strong regional and international teams. The opening match against Canada is set to provide an early benchmark for the team’s capabilities, while the clash with Barbados on day two will be pivotal to their progress in the tournament.
