MUSHTAQUE Mohammed came in for high praise at the conclusion of the seventh leg of the NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Beach Volleyball Tour, a week a go in Bonaire.
Gisette Emer, president of the Bonaire National Volleyball Federation, presented the executive vice-president of NORCECA with a special award at the end of awards ceremony for the three-day tournament. Emer stated that “Mushtaque’s collaboration has a positive impact that has strengthened the volleyball community in Bonaire.”
Emer also noted the Trinidadian’s role in facilitating the resources to develop both volleyball and beach volleyball across CAZOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association) member countries as well as the NORCECA Confederation has been instrumental in positioning the region at a competitive level.
The little island of Bonaire hosted back-to-back major beach events last week, as just before the NORCECA competition served off on Friday, the inaugural CAZOVA Beach Volleyball Championships took place at the same venue.
CAZOVA president Mohammed expressed his appreciation for his vice-president, stating: “the tireless dedication and effort that Gisette has put forth as head of the Bonaire Federation have allowed these events to be such a success.”
The former boss of the Trinidad and Tobago Volleyball Federation also expressed interest in continued collaboration with the country, pointing out that Bonaire is a perfect example of sporting growth in the region and that Emer’s seven-year involvement has been instrumental in “driving the sport’s growth and strengthening its presence.
Trinidadians Stephen Enile and Joel Theodore won the CAZOVA tournament and reached the quarterfinals of the NORCECA event, along with their compatriots Asma Charles and Kristianna Richards, who placed third as Barbadians Del Padmore and Serena Edwards were crowned champs in the first competition.
