Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday sent a letter of congratulations to United States president-elect Donald Trump, expressing his confidence that during Trump’s presidency the US relationship with Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean community (Caricom) will continue to prosper.
In the letter the Prime Minister extended “sincere congratulations” to Trump on his victory in Tuesday’s presidential election.
“The people of the United States of America have spoken in a clear and strong voice and your success reflects their trust in your vision for the future,” he stated.
The Prime Minister said the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the United States shared a long and enduring relationship, founded on deep ties across many sectors, including trade, security, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
“We look forward to further strengthening our cooperation in the years ahead. I have every confidence that under your stewardship, the relationship with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and wider Caribbean Community (Caricom) will continue to prosper,” the letter stated.
“I look forward to engaging with you in the coming years to deepen the dialogue between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America, in furtherance of our common goals and ideals.
“Please accept, Mr President-elect, my best wishes for the success of your administration, for your personal well-being and that of your family, as well as for the Government and People of the United States of America,” the Prime Minister said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne said his ministry was prepared and fully capable of doing everything required for the advancement of the country’s relationship with the new US administration.
In a statement, Browne said the United States remained a most critical partner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
“We congratulate President Trump on his victory and look forward to excellent and productive relations with him and his team in 2025 and beyond,” he said.
“The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs is prepared and fully capable of doing everything that is required for the advancement of our relationship with the new US Administration, always with the best interests of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean Community at heart.”
