Two Iowans hurt in crash in Central America

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – Two people from Iowa are recovering after a crash in Central America.

The friends from Fort Dodge were vacationing in Belize when their vehicle was hit by a reckless driver.

KCCI reports Baylee O’Brien, of West Des Moines, and Kelsey O’Connor, of Kansas City, Missouri, were on vacation together in Belize. Both are originally from Fort Dodge.

The crash, which happened on Sept. 11, was caused by a reckless driver in Belmopan, Belize.

Both sustained severe injuries in the crash and were taken to the hospital.

O’Brien was medically evacuated to a hospital in Florida, while O’Connor is sill in Belize awaiting travel to a Texas medical care center.

Both are in intensive care.
