Araujo back after 181 days out

Some 181 days after picking up a serious hamstring injury playing for Uruguay last summer and some 230 since his last appearance in a blaugrana shirt, Ronald Araujo is back. The centre back last featured for Barça back on 19 May 2024 in the second to last league game of the campaign with Xavi Hernández still coach.

The following month Araujo damaged a thigh in the quarter finals of the Copa América playing for Uruguay which kept him out for over five months.

After surgery and a long recovery process, the defender was given the all clear at the beginning of December but it was until this Saturday that he made his comeback when he was picked in the starting XI for the game against Barbastro by Hansi Flick.

Not only that but he was also awarded the captain's armband, teaming up with Iñigo Martínez in the centre of defence and also making an immediate impact in attack. Moments after having a great chance saved by the home keeper, he headed the assist for Eric garcía to open the scoring.

After playing seven games following his return from injury, he was again hit by a fitness problem.
