BYD Fuels Uruguay’s Push for Green Transit With 100 Electric Buses for National Operator

BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has delivered 100 K9UD electric buses to Cutcsa, Uruguay’s largest public transit operator. The move enhances Uruguay’s commitment to green transportation and cements BYD’s growing influence in Latin America’s electric vehicle market.

BYD Expands in Latin America With Major Delivery to Uruguay

Cutcsa, the world’s largest electric public transport operator, has received one hundred of the electric transit buses manufactured by BYD, a Chinese company that specializes in electric vehicles, measuring 12 meters in length, Electrek reports.

On September 19, BYD delivered one hundred of its completely electric K9UD city buses to Cutcsa, which is the largest electric public transit operator in Uruguay.

BYD’s Growth in Green Transport Solutions

As BYD continues to grow its footprint in the Latin American transportation industry, this delivery represents yet another significant sale for the company. Also, it makes a substantial contribution to the cause of environmentally friendly transportation in Uruguay.

Due to the fact that the official press release issued by BYD did not provide any specifics regarding the Uruguayan specifications of the K9UD, it is probably safe to infer that it will not change too much from the European version. This particular bus has a gross vehicle weight rating of 19.5 tons, has seating for 85 passengers, and can go up to 450 kilometers (about 280 miles) on a single charge from its 422 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery.

Power and Efficiency of BYD’s K9UD Buses

The power for the large electric buses comes from a pair of in-wheel electric motors that each have a capacity of 150 kW, which adds up to a total of approximately 400 horsepower. Over and above what is required to get the bus up to speed and maintain the flow of traffic, to put it another way.

BYD has added Uruguay to its list of clients, joining Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador. At the same time, the firm is continuing to lead the region in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions from public transportation.
