Copa America Quarterfinal Picks: How to Bet Colombia-Panama, Uruguay-Brazil

Copa America July 6

Following PK wins for both Argentina (over Ecuador on Thursday) and Canada (over Venezuela on Friday), one of the Copa America semifinal matchups is set.

Two more quarterfinal games on Saturday night — Colombia vs. Panama at 6 p.m. ET and Uruguay vs. Brazil at 9 p.m. — will decide who meets in the other Copa semi.

Both Colombia-Panama (from State Farm Stadium in Arizona) and Uruguay-Brazil (at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas) will air on FS1.

While the question in the early matchup is how long Panama will keep it competitive against a Colombia side that is on a tear, Uruguay vs. Brazil promises a lot more drama and intrigue.

It’s worth noting that there is no extra time in the Copa America knockout rounds (until the final). That means that if either of these matches is tied after 90 minutes, it’s straight to PKs.

There’s not a whole lot to break down in Saturday’s early game. Panama deserve a ton of credit for taking USA out of its game in group play, and they also took care of Bolivia in a must-win game to wrap up group play.

In their 3-1 loss to Uruguay, though, the talent gap between Panama and the best best teams in South America was undeniable. Colombia are another side that could exploit that disparity on Saturday night.

Taking favorites to win comfortably has rarely been profitable in either the Copa America or Euro 2024 this summer, but Colombia-Panama looks like an exception.

Uruguay vs. Brazil prediction, best bets

Between Vinicius and Bruno Guimaraes, to name just a few of the household names at Manager Dorival Junior’s disposal, Brazil have the clear edge in star power over Uruguay.

But like England and France in Euro 2024, Brazil were not exactly flying in group play.

Uruguay entered the Copa as a popular darkhorse pick to upset Brazil or Argentina. They lived up to, if not exceeded, the hype in group play, whipping both Panama and Bolivia in matches that were never in doubt.

The Uruguayan midfield also impressed in a dominant showing against USA in their group stage finale. The toughness and range of midfielders Manuel Ugarte (PSG) and Fede Valverde (Real Madrid) should also create problems for Brazil.

This feels like a coin flip, and in games this evenly matched, the move is to go with the team in better form at the moment, and that would be Uruguay.

Taking the Uruguayans on the three-way moneyline is bold, especially after the first two quarterfinals of the Copa America required PKs, but worth it, especially at +205 at DraftKings.

Prediction: Uruguay 2, Brazil 1
