Darwin Nunez has been cleared to play in Uruguay’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers after successfully appealing his international ban according to reports.

After Marcelo Bielsa’s side were knocked out of this summer’s Copa America by Colombia Nunez was one of several players to race into the stands after trouble broke out between fans.

The Liverpool forward could be seen throwing punches towards supporters as the unsavory scenes unfolded close the players’ families after the full-time whistle.

Nunez was seen consoling his baby son on the pitch after the fight.

CONMEBOL subsequently handed Nunez a five-match ban from international football, the longest given to any of the players involved.

However, the Uruguayan football federation has successfully appealed the verdict through the Court of Arbitration for Sport and Nunez is now free to feature in Uruguay’s upcoming clashes with Peru and Ecuador later this month.

The authorisation is provisional while the disciplinary process is analysed by the court and Nunez could still be forced to miss upcoming games.

Nunez is currently the top scorer in CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2026 World Cup having netted five times in six appearances for La Celeste.

The upcoming tournament marks features an expanded format, increasing to 48 teams for the first time in the competition’s history.

The seventh-placed finisher will enter an inter-confederation play-off to earn a place in the finals.

Uruguay currently sit third in their group, having suffered just one defeat.
